Amnet
Amnet Naked DSL Review

Data Allowance
Amnet’s data allowances aren’t the biggest in the industry, but they are reasonable. Especially because they provide Naked DSL in many places in WA and SA where many of the biggers providers don’t, and so Amnet may be your best (or only) option to get Naked DSL.
Uploads are free, which is always nice. There is an off peak component to all plans which runs from midnight to 6am every day.
Amnet also offers an additional peering allowance on top of the standard peak and off peak allowances. The peering allowance is an extra 200% of the peak allowance. For example if you are on the $68.95 plan for 12.5GB of downloads (5GB peak and 7.5GB off peak) then your peering allowance would be an extra 10GB (double the peak time quota). In WA Amnet uses WAIX for peering and Pipe Networks in SA
Bundle Deals
You get a free Amnet VoIP service with a Direct In Dial (DID) number so you can make and receive calls like normal. This VoIP service is usually $4.95, but comes bundled for free.
The calls rates on Amnet VoIP are some of the best available. Calls to other Amnet VoIP services are free. Local and national calls are 10 cents untimed and calls to mobiles are only 21 cents per minute. VoIP billing is prepaid by credit card for easy management.
Contract Options
Amnet gives you several contract options:
- 0 months – $149 set up fee
- 12 months – $79 set up fee
- 24 months – No set up fee
Service and Support
Amnet boasts on their website that they will talk to you within one minute of calling their Perth based contact centre. In the several times we have called them, it has been true – they picked up the phone very quickly!
In last year’s Whirpool survey of internet users, 93% of Amnet customers said they would recommend Amnet to their friends, with a similar percentage saying that Ament’s customer service was good or excellent.
Amnet also received very high ratings in the PC Authority Best ISP survey.
Freebies
You get a free VoIP account with your Amnet Naked DSL connection, as well as free calls to other Amnet VoIP users. Amnet also gives you a free Static IP address (worth $60 per year). You get 5 free email accounts with your service, which come with free anti-spam and anti-virus protection. Uploads are also free with Amnet.
As mentioned above in the ‘Data Allowance’ section, Amnet provides the additional free ‘Peering Allowance’. This is 200% of your peak allowance in addition to your standard Peak and Off Peak allowances.
Connection Options
You must have an active landline phone number to connect Naked DSL with Amnet. They are not currently able to transfer your existing landline number ot their VoIP service.
Summary
Amnet has a high quality product with great customer service to back it up. They provide Naked DSL in places like Tanunda, Kapunda and Nuriootpa in SA where no other ISP does. They have an extensive network of DSLAMs in WA and are a great alternative to iinet in that state. Especially If iiet has no available ports at your exchange, then it’s definitely worth looking at your options with Amnet.
